Our Origins
The Wig Wam Boutique located in Bloomington, IN was started over 50 years ago by Claralee (Showers) Black after a beauty school “accident” fried off her own hair just before a trade show. Finding few options for a quick solution made her realize there was a need for a shop to serve people with hair loss in Southern Indiana. This led to her shifting from beauty salon management to opening The Wig Wam Boutique to provide hair replacement products for others in need.
Products and options have improved immensely over the years. Claralee later expanded into men’s hair replacement with a full line of non-surgical hairpiece options and also full wigs for men. Hair pieces can be attached with tape and clips for daily wear or bonded on for 4-6 weeks of continuous wear as sold by many of the "hair club" companies. Rather than follow the "hair club" model of requiring minimum replacements per year and contracts with monthly payments, Claralee prided herself on helping "her men" maximize the life of their hair pieces including refreshing color, doing repairs herself, or sending hairpieces to the manufacturers for repair when it is economical. We strive to continue that level of service for all your hair replacement needs.
Leading to Today
Claralee passed away in 2017 but her sister, Marlene aka "Sis", and Marlene's family (Marshalene Evans and her husband Dean along with Marshalene's daughter, Kristina Mozingo-Fitgzerald) have kept the business open to serve her many loyal customers and anyone needing or wanting more or "better" hair. We provide personal service to help you "look good and feel better." Whether you are dealing with thinning hair, hair loss, or just wanting a new or different look for fun or special occasions, we will do our best to meet your needs at an affordable price. We are also expanding selections of pony tails, extensions, costume wigs, human hair wigs and extensions, and headwear such as turbans to truly have “something for everyone.”
